David Gauntlett and WEB 2.0

David Gauntlett suggests that we are now entering an era where the pleasure of making things is having a resurgence. He explains this in his lecture video "Media and Everyday Life".


Over the years people would be actively creative by doing things such as art, baking, making clothes etc. But with the age of consumerism people consumed a lot and didn't create as much as they used to. However, with the creation of Web 2.0 people have once again started to create their own things to share with the world. An example of this is YouTube. Sometimes people will take on an existing idea and create their own work from it. For example, if you type in "Harry Potter parody" into YouTube, you will get around 683,000 results.
